The Nielsen frame profile 97 features a contemporary design with a metallic finish. The frame is nearly 1 inch wide and has a rabbet of 1/2-inch. The glazing is a 99% UV-filter glass, and the mat board is Crescent RagMat in off-white, an 8-ply double thick mat that offers museum-grade archival protection. The visible mat borders are about 1-1/2 inches even on all sides, and the window is cut 1/4-inch smaller than the diploma.
