Wall Picture Frames

There are two distinct types of wall picture frames that are commonly used. One of these is of course, traditional wood, faux-wood and wood veneer. Within this category, there are literally hundreds of styles to choose from, ranging from ornate and baroque to modern minimalist. The other is the metal frame. There are fewer distinct styles from which to choose when it comes to the various metal wall picture frames; these are differentiated primarily by color and width.

Wall Picture FramesThe general rule of thumb is to choose a wood frame for a painting and a metal frame if the artifact is a photograph. This is not engraved in stone, and of course, your own tastes in décor should be your guide. Furthermore, if for example, you have some old family photos dating from the late 19th or early 20th Century, you may wish to use a traditional-looking wooden wall picture frames. Even a round one would not be inappropriate in this context, particularly if your more or room décor leans more toward Victorian or Edwardian.

On the other hand, modern décor – and even vintage styles such as Art Deco (which itself was strongly influenced by the Machine Age and industry) – call for wall picture frames with clean, straight, minimalist lines. This is true even of wood picture frames for traditional paintings. This said, we carry wooden frame packages here at Frame Destination that feature different types of metallic finishes such as the Silver Leaf and the Tarnish Copper frames. These are appropriate for art photographs, sketches or paintings, and fit in with a range of interiors. You can see these and other frame selections here.
