Gallery Picture Frames

You may have wondered, what are gallery picture frames? How do they differ from those used in the home?

Well, you'll be glad to know that at FrameDestination you can get answers, information and a selection of gallery frames at great prices. We are the trusted artists source for all things framing related and gallery picture frames are one of our specialties. In fact, the majority of the frames we sell are used at public galleries and art shows as well as retail outlets for photo prints.

Gallery FramesThis does not mean that gallery picture frames cannot be used in a private home. As in all things related to home décor, personal taste is the final arbiter of whether or not something works in a particular room. The primary difference is that gallery picture frames are intended to provide a contrast with the surrounding wall while not detracting from the image, while most ordinary frames are actually part of the image, complimenting it in some way – and at the same time, blending in or complimenting the décor of the room. For example, if you have a vintage room with Victorian or early 20th Century furniture and you have a Maxfield Parrish print, you might choose a traditional, thick wooden frame that features some carved detail. On the other hand, if you own a contemporary gallery in say, Portland, Oregon's Pearl District or downtown Manhattan and you are exhibiting contemporary works by a local photographer who specializes in esoteric subjects, you might want to choose thin, dark metal frames with generous mats.
