About our picture frame mat openings

Our picture frames are indexed by artwork size. Artwork size is the actual size of the photograph, inkjet or other print being framed. The opening in our mats is cut a little smaller than the artwork so that the mat will hold the artwork down. Most off-the-shelf ready-made frames will crop ¼ to ½ inch of each side of the photograph. Most of our customers feel this is too much and we agree. For that reason our picture frame mats for artwork smaller than 18x24 inches are cut to overlap just 1/8 inch on all 4 sides. That means the actual or exact opening of the mat will by ¼ inch less total. For example our mat opening for 4x6 photographs is 3.75x5.75 inches. Frames for artwork 18x24 and larger are cut to overlap ¼ inch on all 4 sides so the mat for an 18x24 print will be 17.5x23.5.

We understand that many of you would prefer a different opening size to leave room for a signature border or would like the mat to overlap more of the print to make framing easier. For this reason we offer custom mat openings on our standard picture frames.

Nielsen Metal Moulding
We chose Nielsen because they are the leader in metal picture frames. Nielsen's quality begins with virgin aluminum and ends with each piece polished to perfection. Unparalleled consistency and flawless jewel-like finish... anything less just wouldn't be a Nielsen picture frame. In 1974 the industry was revolutionized when they patented their new corner joining system. Their moulding is both strong and durable. Although they offer both painted and anodized, we chose anodized because it provides a more durable finish.

Wood Moulding
Made by Nurre Caxton (TM) and Monarch Moulding. Our wood picture frames offer simple, sleek profiles that are hand-finished to a deep, uniform Matte Black.They are expertly cut and pre-assembled prior to shipment. Our black wood frames are Nurre Caxton, and Monarch provides our moulding for other color wood picture frames.

CYRO Acrylic
CYRO guarantees their Acrylite Acrylic to be defect free. It provides exceptional optical purity rivaling that of glass which sometimes has a tint. Acrylic only weighs about half as much as glass and is more impact resistant making it much better suited for shipping, display in high traffic areas, or where children are playing.We currently offer three options for your glazing needs.

• Cyro OP-3 is conservation acrylic which offers 98% UV filtering to help protect artwork from fading, yellowing, and brittling. UV filtering glass requires a special coating, however the UV protection of OP-3 is incorporated into the sheet and can not be scratched off.

• Cyro FF-3.Framing quality acrylic without the UV filtering.

If you require the scratch resistance of glass, we offer our frames without any glazing. This allows you to purchase glass separately and locally, so you do not need to worry about shipping breakage. Our frames for 10x15 and 11x14, artwork are available without glazing in the standard frame size of 16x20, so you can purchase standard precut glass.

Crystal Clear Bags
Protective Sealing Crystal Clear Bags™ from Impact Images (www.clearbags.com). The bags are great for artwork because they have an adhesive strip on the bag itself instead of on the flap. When contents are removed or re-inserted there is less likelihood of your product getting stuck to the adhesive strip. Made of super strength crystal clear material (1.6 mil BOPP film). These bags replace or substitute shrink-wrapping and original packing. Featuring a peel-away adhesive strip for self sealing, easy as 1,2,3; insert product, pull off strip, and seal.
